I've been slacking

As is required, I've been slacking with maintaining a steady pace of updating this blog. Part of it has been due to travel where I haven't had a computer with me, but the larger part is the to-do list I have to fix the implementation of my stand-alone Hugo instance...

A while back, I got a wild hair and stayed up until like 2:30am working on getting Hugo up and running on the AWS stack so I could

  • Work locally
  • Push changes to git
  • Have amazon run a build script
  • deploy the blog in an S3 bucket

and I did! I got it all working!

And then I learned I did everything back-assward when it came to editing the theme I was using, because Hugo's documentation tells you to start with a theme but it doesn't tell you to not edit the theme directly but instead make all your edits in a different folder...

So now I have this list of things to tackle, first of which being "make a new branch on github" so I can essentially start from scratch, and it is hard to have the same level of enthusiasm to start from the beginning again.

But I'm going to work on it, because

  1. I want to
  2. Seeing that incomplete to-do is pissing me off

So yeah... I have it slotted in for my friday. Heads down, coding away.

😱
Dear reader: This is only here for historical context. I gave up on fighting with Hugo and am currently hosting my blog on Ghost.
